KTS Formula Student Team Battle Through

This years Formula Student event took place at Bruntingthorpe between the 5th – 8th of July. An event that challenges University students from all over the world to design, build, develop, market and compete as a team with a small single seat racing car.

KTS were pleased to sponsor the class 1 entry from Aston University. The cars are put through a series of challenging static and dynamic tests over the four day period.

The static events cover areas such as the design, presentation, cost and management of the car. The Aston entry made a promising start on these events scoring well.

Before undertaking the dynamic events all cars have to pass scrutineering, Aston did well here passing all the tests but due to the unique transmission system employed by the car, failed the brake test in the first instance. After working hard to rectify this problem it was unfortunately too late to enter the skidpad and sprint tests. An electrical fault meant that the team also failed to pick up any points during the endurance race.

Afterwards Jeremy Ellis, Director of Key Traffic Systems said “The sponsoring of the Aston Teams entry in this years formula student has provided us with an excellent opportunity to get involved in a practical way, extending our already close links with the University, as we employ many Aston graduates and are involved in collaborative research programmes in the field of Traffic Management.”

Whilst there were no prizes for Aston this year all involved with the event thought it well worthwhile.
