KeyLIGHTS provides user-friendly tools to enable all the necessary steps of
lighting design to be quickly performed in the CAD environment.
KeyLIGHTS has a huge symbol library for different types of lighting column, and
this, together with facilities for drawing ducting and cabling, enables users to
easily create working drawings of proposed lighting schemes. Columns can
automatically be positioned on the plan and routines are available to quantify
both the columns and ducting.
KeyLIGHTS interfaces directly with the industry standard Lighting Reality, which
can be used to automatically generate lighting spot levels or contours. Designs
created in KeyLIGHTS can also be exported to Lighting Reality and the refined
layout imported back into KeyLIGHTS. Column positions and orientation are
automatically altered to the refined design. |

KeyLIGHTS Highlights |
Professional CAD based design: Comprehensive
range of tool to assist with accurate positioning of columns – for example at
fixed distance from last; linear or staggered layouts; set-out along line. |
Data Driven Model: Columns and other equipment
include detailed attribute data which can easily be extracted to allow
‘as-built’ installations to be exported to other maintenance databases. |
Automatic Generation of lighting spot levels:
Calculated lighting levels can be plotted in seconds using ‘background’ link to
Lighting Reality. |
Symbols Keys and Bill of Quantities: Automatic
creation of the drawing key and quantities of ducting and cabling can easily be
calculated (including allowance for cabling up to control box in each column,
bollard or other electrical equipment). |
Driver's Eye View:
Automatic generation of 3D views of proposed lighting scheme enable the designer
with Safety Audit. |
Highway Power Cabling calculations:
Optional HPC module calculates required cable sizes, voltage drops, loads and
current. |

Layout and Design Tools |

KeyLIGHTS has a symbol library with over 500 variants for different types of
lighting column and lamp. Identification of symbols is simple due to the
structured nature of the symbol range.
Columns can be automatically inserted at chosen spacings along a road, or by
using tools for easy measurement between columns. |
KeyLIGHTS provides a range of tools to ensure accurate layout, whether this be
linear or staggered arrangements, at variable or fixed distances, or setout
along a footway to update lighting between existing columns for example.
Symbols can be swapped automatically, for example from proposed to existing
after scheme completion and customisable automatic keys can be created for
symbols used in drawings. |

Column and lamp data is stored with each symbol in the design drawing and can
easily be exported for use with other programs along with location information.
A logical column numbering and labelling system is also employed for ease of
recognition.
Columns can be selected for any purpose based on any query of column attributes. |
Ducting and cabling can be shown using a range of user customisable ‘linetypes’.
These items can then be quantified and labelled easily. Also includes a
comprehensive range of additional symbols for example inspection chambers,
bollards, signs, feeder pillars and other street furniture. |

Light Level Plots |
Contours |
Used in conjunction with Lighting Reality, column position data can be extracted
and lighting levels calculated. These results can then be imported and correctly
shown graphically to ascertain the correct position of the columns.
Lighting grids can be any size and spacing, with all masking options honoured
with colour coding of results available to user-preferences. Values above and/or
below threshold levels can be suppressed. Isolux footprints can also be
effortlessly generated from any lamp using the Lighting Reality database. |
Contours can quickly be generated either using Lighting Reality or directly from
plotted light levels within AutoCAD Civil 3D |

3D Mountain Plot |
3D Driver’s Eye Views Automatically generated |
Light levels are plotted in 3D – the coordinate Z value taken from the light
level – to provide a visual assistance for the designer. AutoCAD Civil 3D can
then be used to transform this into the traditional mountain plot. |
The full power of AutoCAD’s 3D capabilities are harnessed into a simple to use
tool. KeyLIGHTS generates driver’s 3D views automatically to assist with safety
audit, Other 3D features can be added to enhance the design drawings, including
buildings, walls, trees, signs etc. |

An optional HPC module calculates cable sizes required to meet the 17th Edition
IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). |

HPC outputs include a full calculation results report, tabulated cable and test
schedules, and also schematic diagrams. |
