KeyOSC (Key Ordnance Survey Companion) is a suite of applications to enable the easy handling of MasterMap data by an Organisation. By storing MasterMap data in a spatially indexed Oracle database this data can be viewed seamlessly within the AutoCAD environment and the same data set can be viewed by corporate GIS systems. This provides a single solution for organisations and unifies CAD and GIS departments.

KeyOSC consists of the following modules:
  • KeyOSC Mapper –  enables MasterMap data stored in an Oracle database to be viewed seamlessly within the AutoCAD environment. Version 2.0 can now interact directly with corporate datasets built using such systems as Dotted eyes', SuperpOSE, Snowflake Software's GO loader or Safe Software's FME. In addition, MasterMap data held generically within Oracle or SQL Server 2008 can be accessed directly and viewed.
  • KeyOSC Tiler – enables traditional viewing of tile based mapping by handling drawing tiles in AutoCAD
  • KeyOSC Builder – creates a central Oracle database of spatially indexed MasterMap data, optionally from which DWG tiles can be created

These modules are used in the following combinations:
  • KeyOSC Builder and KeyOSC Mapper provides access to seamless mapping in AutoCAD.
  • KeyOSC Builder creates AutoCAD DWG tiles which can then be loaded into AutoCAD using KeyOSC Tiler.

  KeyOSC Highlights
Automatic Zoom: Automatically show different levels of mapping from Outline through to Full mapping based on user defined thresholds.   Get Mapping in Area/Buffer: Specify an area or buffer with an offset to show different levels of mapping from outline through to full mapping.
Gazetteer: Zoom directly to a street using the included KeyGAZETTEER module based on National Street Gazetteer (NSG) data.   Plotting Utilities: Easily create viewports and create insets, insert borders and northpoints, set viewport scales and angles.
Versioned Mapping: Display different versions of mapping based on a date by loading change only updates   Toggle Automatic Map Loading: Toggle automatic map loading on and off to facilitate easy navigation and display of mapping.

  KeyOSC in Detail
  Mapping Extents   Load In View

Quickly generate the extents of a mapping area stored in the database and draw an outline view of the main roads.

An alternative way of showing mapping is to show the mapping, at any of the pre-defined five levels, in the current view.

  KeyGAZETTEER   Versioned Mapping

The KeyGAZETTEER module, supplied with KeyOSC Mapper, allows users to quickly zoom to the start of a selected road or the intersection with another road. The mapping at a pre-defined level is automatically rendered on-screen.

When loading the Mastermap data into the oracle database all mapping is versioned, this has the advantage that versioned mapping can be displayed for a particular date, again the level of detail can be specified.

Load Mapping   Map Layers and Colours

Mapping can be loaded on demand at different levels of detail. There are five levels of detail; Outline, Low, Medium, High and Full.

All mapping features are placed on their own layer in accordance with the Ordnance Survey guidelines. Once loaded mapping can be changed to grey or to a single specified colour. Default colours can be restored at the click of a button.

  Toggle Area   Fix Mapping

Automatic loading of data can be controlled by the toggle area command. If toggle area is set to on then mapping at different levels of detail will automatically be brought in depending on the zoom height.

Any mapping that is drawn into the AutoCAD environment can be 'fixed' as AutoCAD native objects so that they can be saved in a dwg file and used by other users using AutoCAD without KeyOSC or AutoCAD LT.

Load In Area   Plotting Tools and Utilities

Mapping can be loaded into specific areas based on any closed polyline. In addition the boundary can be moved and mapping for the new area can be viewed.

Several plotting tools allow for the easy creation and orientation of viewports in which to show the mapping. In addition north symbols, scale bars and borders can easily be inserted into a layout or model view.

  Load In Buffer   Options

A buffer line can be drawn, for example based on a road centreline, with a specified offset and the mapping can then automatically be shown at different levels of detail.

The detail of mapping shown at each level is fully user definable. Access to the road features and at what scale they appear can be set. Additionally the zoom thresholds can be specified and saved for use in a different session.
