KeyROADWORKS provides an extensive range of drawing tools to create Temporary
Traffic Management (TTM) scheme designs in accordance with the Traffic Signs
Manual, Chapter 8 Parts 1 and 2, 2009. A comprehensive library of pre-drawn
traffic signs is also supplied, with further routines for drawing road markings
and placing general traffic management equipment symbols.
Layouts can be created in the traditional wallpaper style diagrammatic scheme,
or based on Ordnance Survey mapping. On real mapping an ‘intelligent’ signing
corridor object allows for designs to be re-used, and drag-and-drop edited to
suit any road, and is also ideally suited to rolling works such as barrier
maintenance, as the datum (start point) of the works can easily be moved along
the road corridor with signs, placed at specified distances, moving along
automatically.
Quantities of road marking, signs and other symbols are extracted from the
drawing automatically and tabulated to ensure accurate estimation, and provide
equipment picking lists for the teams on-site. |

KeyROADWORKS Highlights |
|
|
|
Professional CAD based design: Temporary
Traffic Management layouts can be designed quickly using a wide range of tools,
backed up by the industry standard AutoCAD. |
|
Re-usable Zone Based Designs: Dynamic Signing
‘Corridor’ object allows for designs to be re-used. Whole signing layouts can be
drag-and-drop edited to suit different road layouts. |
|
|
|
Intuitive Commands:
Easy to use routines for positioning signs and symbols are provided. Local works
and big Trunk roads can quickly be drawn up. |
|
Complete Workflow Solution: Quantities of
signs, road marking text and lining can be determined automatically. These are
tabulated to detail Bill’s of Quantity and equipment pick lists. |
|
|
|
Site Installation Tool for Temporary Signs:
Includes Ballast Calculator module for temporary sign support design. Calculate
required ballast loading to local conditions. |

Corridor Based Design |
|
|
|
 |
KeyROADWORKS includes a huge library of signs, currently over 350 (TSRGD 2002)
standard signs and permitted variants. These can be selected from a categorised
selection of thumbnail menus. |

An intelligent signing corridor object allows designs to be repeated, and
drag-and-drop edited to suit specific local circumstances. This is also ideally
suited to rolling works as the datum (start point) of the works can easily be
moved along the road corridor – all signs are positioned at specified distances
from the datum and are automatically repositioned to remain as such. Complete
TTM schemes can be worked up quickly, leaving more time to consider the finer
points of the design. |

Zonal Signing Corridors Allow for Re-usability |
|
Linear Signing |
|
|
|
 |
The parameters of the Signing Corridor itself can easily be configured allowing
quick re-positioning of whole strings of signs, just by dragging-and-dropping
the datum point. The corridor itself is modelled on a natural, curve fitting
Spline which can easily be ‘grip’ edited, if it is needed, on different road
alignments. This allows for example the approach signing zone, which is often
the same for many schemes, to be re-used no matter what the road geometry. |
|
|
 |
The Signing Corridor model also accommodates lines of signs or other objects
designed to control the flow of vehicles (see configuration screen below). Lines
of cones, for example at 1 metre intervals, tapered across a carriageway can
quickly be added, perhaps also with an additional symbol such as a cone-top
flashing light at a different interval included. This ‘Control Alignment’ tool
can also be used for example to show the line, position and number of workforce
protection barriers, including crash attenuation starting block. |

Diagrammatic and O.S. Map Based Designs |

 |
‘Control Alignments’ (lines of objects to control the flow of vehicles) are
added to the Signing Corridor by way of various parameters. The parameters can
easily be changed and the drawing is automatically updated to reflect different
settings, including for example distance from datum, and offset from the edge of
carriageway at each end. Shown here are the values for a taper – a line of cones
at 1.00 metre intervals going from 10.55 metres (offside edge of carriageway) to
the start of a 3.65 metre single running lane through the work zone. Longer term
works may include workforce protection of some kind, and an edge of carriageway
road marking can easily be added. |

KeyROADWORKS, in combination with AutoCAD can be used to create professional
designs on either the traditional, simple diagrammatic layouts, often still
appropriate for straightforward or local works; or on full 1:1 scale Ordnance
Survey Mastermap. |

KeyROADWORKS can be used to create easy to read designs, supporting on-site
operations. This also allows for professional, presentation quality designs to
be drawn up to support the tender process ensuring that you can win those
contracts. |

Ballast Calculator |

|
|

A driver’s eye view can quickly be shown, to check sight lines and other aspects
of a design for Safety Audit. This harnesses the power of 3D design in the CAD
environment, whilst making the process simple and intuitive. |

Included with KeyROADWORKS is the Ballast Calculator module for temporary sign
support design, which allows for local wind conditions to be considered. Short
term works or Long Term Exposed, wherever in the UK, KeyROADWORKS will determine
suitable ballast loads to avoid worst case scenarios such as the sign assembly
sliding when wind forces apply to the rear of the sign. Different mounting
criteria, ballast position and coefficient of friction can all be set as
required. |
